KA4PUV
is the amateur radio station call sign of yours truly, Norman Young.
Amateur radio is only one of several personal and
professional
interests reflected in the websites I am currently developing. In
addition to being a ham radio operator, I am also the legal
counsel for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and I
am active in my local church, Pine Ridge Baptist. A while back, I decided to use the personal web space provided by my ISP to create a website for the Awana Truth and Training Club at Pine Ridge for the kids and their parents to enjoy. At the time, I knew absolutely nothing about building a website, but someone suggested I download a copy of an open source web page creator called Nvu. That, along with a trip to the local library for some books on html, gave me just enough to get started, - or to be dangerous - depending on your point of view. With these tools, I somehow managed to launch the T & T website within a couple of weeks. About that same time, I also stumbled onto Google Page Creator, a great free service for those who want to put together a personal website but who have no html experience. In fact, Google lets you create as many as five different sites on a single Google account. A site can be assembled in a matter of minutes, and in my opinion, the results look really good, The service also provides an amazing 100 megabytes per site, with no ads. This is far better than the many free (but ad supported) web hosting services out there. So at the same time I was playing around with html, I was also using Google Page Creator to do trial runs for some of the sites that were eventually redone here. If you have any interest in creating a site just for fun with minimal effort and at no cost, you can check out this service by going here and clicking on Google Page Creator. I am still new to html programming, and I have not even begun to master style sheets, so at this point, some of these sites may appear a little rough around the edges to "real" web designers, But this isn't about a career in web design. Rather, it is just a way to learn a little something and have fun while doing it! So what exactly is the KA4PUV.COM web portal? Eventually, this will
become the home page for my amateur radio website, but right
now,
my immediate goal is to gather all the web projects I
have been working on over the last
several months in one convenient location.
These sites were hosted
on other servers scattered about on Googlepages and BellSouth (now, AT&T). Since none of these sites had its own
domain
name, the URLs were not all that easy to remember, so
I
decided to begin by using this space as a gateway to them.
My next goal was to evenually move all the sites to this server under subdomains, and to move and redesign the Google sites. I also wanted to consolidate all of the church sites into a single website. with its own domain. These things have now been done. I have also redone a couple of sites under subdomains that are now fully operational: The first one to be redone was the Wildlife Attorney site, followed by the TEARA VE Team website. Finally, you'll find the TEARA Newsletter repository here as well. They are here for all to enjoy, And maybe one day, you'll visit here and find a real ham radio site... |
